A small community just outside of La Fortuna in the next town over called, ‘El Tanque’ is offering small lots where you can build a 2-bedroom Tico-style house starting at $42,500. The lots themselves are around $12,500 mas o menos, so you might want to buy 2. And you can build a bigger house on the lot if you want. This is basically, simple living, Tico Style living at an affordable price. There are about 45 houses already there but many lots are still available and if you want a nicer lot, you can get it. A few folks have made Airbnb’s out of their houses, so you have options at great prices. This community is just off the main road connecting La Fortuna and El Tanque. La Fortuna being about 12 minutes away and the small town of El Tanque just a couple minutes away.

Although El Tanque is a small Tico town (it does have a few gringos), it is next to La Fortuna Costa Rica, which is arguably the top tourist destination in Costa Rica. It can be very nice as well to convenient to live close to a tourist town without actually living inside a tourist town, as opportunities abound. Start a business, Airbnb, something in the tourist field, just use your imagination and follow your dream. or not 😉 Chill. La Fortuna is known for the Arenal Volcano, Lake Arenal and being the main destination for adventure tourism in Costa Rica: waterfall rappelling, white water rafting, ziplines, horseback rides, ATV’s, night hikes, monkey’s, sloths, a thousand birds, reptiles, mammals and the jungle, hotsprings, spas, caves, local waterhole and the list keeps going but I’m sure you get the picture.

Many people decide to retire in Costa Rica because of its natural beauty, simple life and laid back living.
