Living Black in Costa Rica 🤷🏾‍♀️ Black Expats Living Life Abroad

#blackexpats #livinglifeabroad #BlackinCostaRica ‘Living Black in Costa Rica Black Expats Living Life Abroad’ Devon has been living in Costa Rica for 6 years now. Four in Grecia and now in Escazu. An interesting fact, Devon actually reached out to Travel Costa Rica NOW back in 2015 and we actually had a SKYPE call. I could help her to an extent but being that I am not black, I couldn’t actually answer some of her questions, just give my observations. Anyway, she has been very busy these days with her FaceBook groups (helping black folks relocate to Costa Rica). and the fact she has 3 shows on a fairly new Black Radio Station (streamed on the internet) called Blaxit (details below). This video, ‘Living Black in Costa Rica Black Expats Living Life Abroad’ is on how she came to live in Costa Rica, her thoughts on how Costa Rica treats black people and her radio station, Blaxit and much much more. So

#costofliving #livingincostarica #simplelife ‘Costa Rica – My Cost of Living, My Home, My Life’ If you’re thinking about living in Costa and you’re wondering how much the ‘simple life’ costs then you’re going to want to check out this video. And even if you’re not interested in the ‘pura vida’ lifestyle, I (michael alan) offer tips a long the way in this video. This is like an episode of ‘Costa Rica Cribs’. We will take a walk through my very small Tico House and I will breakdown all my bills (cost of living), offer some insight and some ‘tips’ for those who are thinking about a Costa Rica life. If Costa Rica is on your radar and you’re wondering if you can live the simple life, then CHECK OUT this video, ‘Costa Rica – My Cost of Living, My Home, My Life’

“So you want to live in Costa Rica. Move to Costa Rica, Retire in Costa Rica. Run a business in Costa Rica. Live the pura vida lifestyle. Live the simple life in Costa Rica. You want your house in Costa Rica. You want low property taxes in Costa Rica. You want cheap beer in Costa Rica. You want all imported goods whether it’s Jif peanut butter or a Ford Mustang to be the same price you pay in the United States. You want a maid in Costa Rica. You want a lawn maintenance guy in Costa Rica. You want your house to be decked out- leather couches 80 million inch TV screen, internet speed that’s so fast it uploads shit before you tell it too. Of course gas needs to be cheap. Did I say imported stuff… what I meant was all tech items- computers, phones, televisions. Amazon should come to my house in Costa Rica. Washer/dryers, refrigerators, ovens, coffee makers, crock pots, silverware, furniture should all be at least as cheap as from where I’m from. You guys don’t make it in Costa Rica. Trying to replicate your life you’re living but want everything cheaper. That is NOT a reason to consider Costa Rica. Please watch this video, ‘Living Cheap in Costa Rica I Can You Can’t’, so you move on and don’t even consider Costa Rica as an option.”

  3. We have more cobwebs than you have 😂 in Santa Ana on a good size property rasing some farm animals living off the land as much as possible, I am a chef by trade from California been making food out of our cactus, bamboo, and lots of fruit and vegetables, along with spice. Geckos season I guess is pretty much over, as they lay their eggs all over the house. Behind thing in drawers lol. I raise Bugs for feed and Human consumption , btw i don’t eat Geckos 🤣😂

  4. Thanks for the great video you presented very informative, I’m curious about eating out, that would make a excellent video as well, I live near Montreal Canada restaurant prices have been going up like crazy
curious to know if the restaurant prices are affected down there

  5. Good for you Michael😀 If you’re happy that’s all that matters. I do have a couple questions. Why do you have a cast iron fry pan in your fridge? What is your internet speed?

  6. Thanks for your direct no nonsense look at your simple truth. The more material the greater the responsibility, which then equals time lost. A small humble suggestion if I could. If you can, wipe the board clean and fill it with fresh love. 🙏💜

  7. Your certified Tico.. lol with volcanic dust always blowing in its a pain to keep up, unless you want to hire a maid. Jajaja better to live life than put on a show for the neighbor’s

  8. You dont have a car my husband got rid of ours we walk bus uber cheaper less of a headache and no worries about upkeep, and I get to stay healthy easy.

  9. I would like to have a little Tico house like that. I want to live either in the Coco or San Isidro area. Simple life. I am a retiree. Would definitely need a washer and dryer ☺️.

  10. Michael wishing you a great Thanksgiving day. Enjoyed your video. I have lived here in CR for almost 30 years. I can remember living on less than $500/month. in the early 1990’s. One thing you left out is insurance. This can be costly depending on your reported income or the minimal 1K per month pension status. Costing 10% of your income. We have a mutual friend who lives in Fortuna area the Harry… The medical clinic and hospitals are not real coinvent once you get to a senior age. I now live own my humble home in San Jose area a house I bought back in 1995. I do not have a car now. and I am married. I spend approx. $1800/month. Michael best wishes

  11. Dude loved the video. Could I live that way? No way! Lol. But very cool to show us. You’re the best. Anyone who thinks bring a Vegan was fun is just crazy enough for me. Viva La difference.

  12. 28:43 "I love things that are independent and have a life." On its own, that statement gives me the feel of a father figure. 🙂

  13. I am Mike’s neighbor, I live two streets over and I have a nice 2 bedroom apartment. I pay $300 for rent with water and TV included, I pay about $50 for internet and $50 electricity. The biggest expense is food, groceries shopping and eating out. My total is about $400 a month, plus food and drinks.

  14. If we had a “ugly” house contest, I would win ! 😊 I am 64 and have accepted the fact that I will always be poor, I live in a 60some y/o trailer 15 miles from a store, that I heat w a wood cook stove poor, 😂, I really don’t mind 🤷🏼‍♀️, but I figure if I’m gonna be poor asf, I might as well be poor in paradise 💚 be there in July !

  15. I really enjoyed this video, thank you for being so open to share. Life is full of blessings and losses. I hope today is a blessing for you, Michael.

  16. LOL- the bricks to hold up the nylon then the "yeah I’m pretty smart"….I almost spat my own coffee out. Thanks for the video Micheal!

  17. Michael, what do you do when you go to San Jose? You litteraly don’t have more clothes than that? You need pants and sweater or jacket there for sure.

  18. So true! I use TP for Kleenex, rolls all over. Viva la umbrella, I really like the Umbrella Corporation logo on you umbrella 😃

  19. Very fun video. As I’ve said before, I also desire the simple life, but unfortunately my girlfriend feels differently. We are living in the Escazu area for the winter and she’s one of those who often complain about how things are different than what she was used to in the USA. It’s an ongoing negotiation. Of course the accommodations I would want are a bit different than yours, but not that much. As far as necessities I only really want a comfortable place to sleep, a functional kitchen and bathroom, a decent computer with good internet, a cell phone, and a guitar. Anything more would be gravy. I would want a car however unless I was very close to public transport and markets since my knees are arthritic.

  20. I just moved to La Fortuna, and just rented my first place, this was the type of housing I was searching for but I think I may need to meet more people and get more integrated here to find them. The place I got is great for a great price but am still looking for something simpler. I sold everything and gave everything up in the US for this lifestyle. Values are definitely different here.

  21. Thanks for Sharing. Pura Vida lifestyle is the best living here!!! I’m sorry for your loss . My 14 yo daughter died in an accident in 1994. It totally changed me !! Life is so short so make the best of it and don’t waste it on stupid things that don’t matter !! HUGS and Blessings 🙌🙏

  22. Thanks for the peek into your life. I love the simplicity! ❤ (BTW I went shopping for a stationary bike today. Didn’t find a good quality one. Any tips? Let me know if you want to sell that one.)

  23. Yup…washer and dryer. So happy that our house has both. Sure…lots of things can dry in the air or on the line…but not towels and not jeans! And not much of anything in September and October!!!

  24. A very down to earth video! As I get older, I too find that I much prefer living a simpler lifestyle with less things that clutter and take up a lot of space. Time and health are what’s most important.

  25. Im sorry for your loss, Michael. Fentanyl is no joke. I work for CPS Emergency Response in California and started getting lots of reports of Fentanyl overdoses and deaths in 2020. My coworkers 15 y.o. granddaughter went to a friend’s house, told friends mother she had menstrual pains, friends mother gave her half a street Percocet with Fentanyl. The girl went to sleep and never woke up. Tragic! One pill can knock out a young adult for 5 days, 2 can kill you. Inhaling the dust put a police officer into cardiac arrest in San Diego a couple of years ago. Got a report last month 2 y.o. was knocked out for 2 days probably just on Fentnyl residue. I made it an emergency response critical incident and the kid was PC’d because no one knew where the kid got into it.
